Second quarter of 2024
The number of Canary Islands companies registered with Social Security grew by 0.1% in one year.
At the end of the second quarter of 2024, the archipelago had 60,654 registered companies, i.e. 76 more than in the same period of the previous year.
The sector that grew the most was Construction. Among the islands, El Hierro was the one with the best evolution.
At the end of the second quarter of 2024, the Canary Islands Social Security registered a total of 60,654 registered companies, a decrease of 0.6% compared to the first quarter of 2024 and a growth of 0.1% compared to the same quarter last year.
In absolute terms, the sector with the highest number of registered companies at the end of the second quarter was Services, with a total of 49,504. It was followed by Construction (5,976), Industry (2,851) and Agriculture (2,323).

In terms of annual variation, the sector that grew the most with respect to the second quarter of 2023 was Construction, with exactly 0.2%. As for the rest of the sectors, they presented different variations, Agriculture decreased by 0.2%, Industry grew by 0.1%, and Services grew by 0.1%.
Tenerife and Gran Canaria were the islands with the highest number of companies registered with Social Security, with 27,560 and 23,277 respectively in the second quarter.
The rest of the Canary Islands were as follows: Lanzarote with 5,070, Fuerteventura with 3,605, La Palma with 2,527, La Gomera with 602 and finally El Hierro with 348.
El Hierro was the island that grew the most in comparison with the same quarter of the previous year, registering an annual variation rate of 4.2%. The rest of the islands showed different variations, being 1.7% for La Palma, 1.4% for Fuerteventura, 1.1% for Lanzarote, 0.8% for La Gomera, 0.4% for Tenerife and -0.5% for Gran Canaria.
