Transvulcania: An Economic Boost for La Palma

Transvulcania: Un Impulso Económico para La Palma
The successful mountain race generates a return of 8.39 euros for every euro invested, consolidating Isla Bonita as a reference tourist and sports destination.

The Cabildo of La Palma has revealed the economic impact of the latest edition of Transvulcania, one of the most emblematic mountain races in the world, which has left a significant mark on the economy of Isla Bonita. According to the data presented by the island president, Sergio Rodríguez, together with the CEO of Sodepal, Miriam Perestelo; the head of Sports, Yurguen Hernández, and the director of Corporación 5, José Miguel González, the race has achieved an economic return at the production level of 8.39 euros for each euro invested, and 5.06 euros in income for each euro allocated to the organization of the event.

Sergio Rodríguez stressed that the main objective of the current government team, which was to recover the evidence and return it to the palm tree population, has been more than met. This goal, he explained, has not only been achieved, but has received recognition from both the local community and the runners themselves, which shows that the path followed by the organizing team is the appropriate one. Beyond the impressive economic results, the island Corporation values Transvulcania's ability to generate tangible benefits for the island and its inhabitants.

Furthermore, Rodríguez highlighted the double aspect of Transvulcania: not only is it a sporting event that positions La Palma on the international map, but it is also closely linked to tourism. This tourist impact is reflected in the fact that 90% of the participants have expressed their intention to return to future editions of the race, while more than 60% have assured that they would return to La Palma as tourists.

These results, according to Rodríguez, are "very positive and important data for everyone", since they reinforce the commitment to events such as Transvulcania that contribute to building tourist loyalty and consolidating the image of La Palma as a top-level destination. In a context of social and economic recovery, these events play a crucial role, and the Island Council is committed to continuing to work in this direction.

The report also revealed a high level of satisfaction among runners, who rated their experience with 8.8 points out of 10. This data suggests a high probability of participation in future editions, which promises to maintain and even increase the economic impact of the race in the coming years.

José Miguel González, director of Corporación 5, provided additional details of the report, highlighting that 80% of the participants in the last edition were 43-year-old men, while 73% of their companions were 41-year-old women, mostly from the Canary Islands. Furthermore, total expenditure by participants exceeded €4 million, with accommodation and catering as the main areas of expenditure, contributing significantly to the local economy.

In summary, the latest edition of Transvulcania has not only been a sporting success, but has also proven to be an economic driver for La Palma, strengthening its position as an attractive destination for both sports lovers and tourists in general.
