In July 2024, the euro area current account balance recorded a surplus of €40 billion, down from €51 billion the previous month. In the last 12 months, the accumulated surplus amounted to €388 billion (2.6% of GDP), compared to €71 billion (0.5%) a year earlier.
On the financial account, euro area residents made net purchases of non-area portfolio investment securities of €477 billion in the same period, while non-residents acquired €642 billion of euro area investment securities.
