The labor market began 2025 with a slight decrease in the average number of affiliations to the Social security. According to the latest data, in January there were 932,421 affiliations, which represents a drop in 8,267 affiliations compared to December 2024.
Despite this monthly drop, the year-on-year comparison shows a more positive outlook. In the last 12 months, memberships have increased by 30,241, which is equivalent to a growth of 3.4%.
Generalized decline in all sectors
The decline in affiliations has been reflected in both sexes, with a drop in 1.1% in women and of 0.7% in men. By regimes, both the General Regime like that of self-employed experienced reductions.
The sector services was the most affected by this decrease, although there were also decreases in construction and industry. Instead, the agriculture remained stable, with figures similar to those of the previous month.
Closing of January with 925,668 Memberships
If we look at the data for the end of January, the total number of affiliates stood at 925,668, which represents a drop of 13,800 memberships compared to the end of 2024. However, the most relevant data is the annual growth of the 3.3%, which demonstrates a positive long-term trend.
These data reflect the usual slowdown in employment after the Christmas campaign, although year-on-year growth continues to mark favorable developments in the labor market. It will be key to observe the coming months to identify if this positive trend continues.
