Annual CPI falls to 1.5% in September, while core inflation falls to 2.4%.
In September, the annual rate of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) fell to 1.5%, the lowest since March 2021 and eight tenths of a percentage point lower than in August. The groups that contributed most to this decline were:
Transport: with a change of -3.9%, mainly due to the fall in fuel prices.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages: decreased by 1.8%, due to the reduction in the prices of oils and fats.
Housing: down 2.9% due to the fall in electricity prices.
Leisure and culture: fell to 1.1%, mainly due to a drop in package holidays.
Moreover, core inflation (excluding unprocessed food and energy) stood at 2.4%, three tenths of a percentage point less than in August.
On a monthly basis, the general CPI fell by -0.6%, driven by the drop in prices in leisure and culture (-4.1%), transport (-1.7%) and housing (-0.7%). On the other hand, the clothing and footwear group increased by 2.4% due to the start of the autumn-winter season.
As for the regional data, Asturias and the Basque Country presented the highest annual rate (1.8%), while Cantabria registered the lowest (1.0%).
Finally, the annual Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) stood at 1.7%, seven tenths of a percentage point lower than in August.
