Spanish National Statistics Institute (INE) publishes first Business Turnover Indexes based on 2021

March 25, 2024 – The Spanish National Statistics Institute (INE) today published the first Business Turnover Indexes (ICNE) based on 2021, which offer a new perspective on the evolution of the Spanish business sector.

The ICNE data based on 2021 show an annual rate of -3.2% in January 2024, indicating a fall in the turnover of Spanish companies compared to the same month of the previous year. The monthly rate, however, was 0.6%, suggesting a slight upturn in business activity in the last month.

This new version of the ICNE incorporates a number of improvements, such as an updated weighting structure that better reflects the reality of the Spanish business sector. The INE has also linked the 2021 series with the 2015 series, which allows for comparisons between different periods.

The publication of the ICNE based on 2021 is a valuable tool for economic analysts, companies and investors seeking to better understand the evolution of the Spanish business sector.
