Canary Islands see a 0.3% increase in businesses registered with Social Security in April 2025

The business landscape in the Canary Islands continues to show signs of stability, with a slight year-on-year growth in the number of companies registered with Social Security. In April 2025, the total number of registered businesses reached 60,973, which represents 164 more companies compared to the same month in 2024 — an annual increase of 0.3%.

While modest, this growth demonstrates the resilience of the archipelago’s economy and its ability to maintain and gradually expand its business base despite the broader global context.

Performance by sector shows a varied picture:

  • Construction: led the growth with an increase of 1.65%, making it the most dynamic sector in relative terms.

  • Services: experienced a smaller rise of 0.35%, remaining the main driver of the Canarian economy.

  • Industry and the primary sector: both saw declines in the number of businesses, with drops of 0.99% and 3.43% respectively.

These figures highlight a positive trend, particularly in construction and services — two key sectors for employment and economic development across the islands.
