INE publishes the Advance Indicator of the Consumer Price Index (CPI)
September 2024

The annual change in the leading CPI indicator stood at 1.5% in September, eight tenths of a percentage point lower than that recorded in August.
The annual rate of the leading indicator of core inflation fell by 0.3 percentage points to 2.4%.
The annual change in the HICP flash estimate is 1.7%.

Estimated annual CPI inflation in September 2024 is 1.5%, according to the leading indicator compiled by the INE.

This indicator provides an advance in the CPI which, if confirmed, would represent a decrease of eight tenths of a percentage point in its annual rate, since in August this variation was 2.3%.

This trend is mainly due to the fall in fuel prices, and also, albeit to a lesser extent, to the decrease in food and electricity prices, compared with the rise in September 2023. Leisure and culture also played a role, with prices falling more sharply than in the same month of the previous year.

The estimated annual rate of change of core inflation (the general index excluding unprocessed food and energy products) fell by 0.3 percentage points to 2.4%.

Evolution of the monthly rate

Consumer prices register a rate of -0.6% in September with respect to August, according to the leading indicator of the CPI.

Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP)

In the month of September, the estimated annual change rate of the HICP stood at 1.7%, seven tenths of a percentage point lower than that recorded the previous month.

In turn, the estimated monthly change of the HICP was -0.1%.
