ISTAC publishes the Foreign Trade Statistics for the Canary Islands

The value of imports into the Canary Islands between January and June 2024 is provisionally estimated at a total of 11,241.662 million euros, which would represent an increase of 4.7% over the same period of the previous year.

On the other hand, and also provisionally, total exports amount to 2,171.442 million euros and the rate of variation with respect to 2023 is 29.7%. The trade deficit reaches 9,070,220 million euros and the coverage rate, calculated as the quotient of total exports and imports, is 19.3%.

Machinery and transport equipment accounted for 28.0% of imports in June 2024, followed by miscellaneous manufactured articles (18.3%) and food products (17.1%). 83.1% of imports came from the rest of Spain and 11.1% from the rest of the EU-27_2020. 95.1% came from the rest of Europe.

In terms of exports, 46.7% were miscellaneous manufactured articles and 29.8% were oil and oil derivatives. The destination of 56.2% of exports was the rest of Spain, 29.6% the rest of the EU-27_2020, 86.9% Europe and another 2.9% Africa.
