Third quarter 2024. Provisional data
The number of foreclosure registrations initiated in the land registries in the third quarter of 2024 was 4,121, an increase of 22.8% over the same period of the previous year.
Foreclosures on dwellings owned by individuals fell by 1.5%. Among them, those initiated on principal residences fell by 1.1%.
Foreclosure notifications initiated and registered according to type of property
Foreclosures on dwellings accounted for 62.5% of the total number of foreclosures in the third quarter.
Of the total number of foreclosures, 41.7% were regular dwellings of individuals, 12.0% of legal entities and 8.8% other dwellings of individuals. Other urban foreclosures accounted for 29.1% of the total.
Foreclosure notices initiated and registered on dwellings by status
11.6% of foreclosures in the third quarter were on new homes and 88.4% on used homes.
The number of foreclosures on new dwellings increased by 42.4% in annual rate and those on used dwellings by 7.1%.
Foreclosure notifications on dwellings according to the year of registration of the mortgage
12.0% of foreclosures initiated on dwellings in the third quarter corresponded to mortgages constituted in the year 2007, 17.6% to mortgages constituted in 2006 and 10.6% to mortgages from 2005.
The period 2004-2008 accounted for 55.3% of the foreclosures initiated this quarter.

Results by Autonomous Community
The Autonomous Communities with the highest number of foreclosure certifications over the total number of properties this quarter were Catalonia (1,162), Andalusia (769) and Valencia (638). For their part, Comunidad Foral de Navarra (11), La Rioja (29) and Illes Balears (50) recorded the lowest number.
In the case of dwellings, Catalonia (588), Andalusia (548), and Comunitat Valenciana (450) presented the highest number of foreclosures. The lowest were in Comunidad Foral de Navarra (11), La Rioja (19) and Cantabria (22).
